NOCO Boost Plus GB40 Review

If you are looking for a jump starter to carry with you in your car, pay close attention to this model. In my NOCO Boost Plus GB40 review, I will pay attention to its strengths and features and try to find flaws (if any).

This item is the second product in the brand’s Boost series, offering more power than GB20. So, don’t be deceived by its compact size. It produces 1,000 Amps for jump-starting a dead 12V battery without much hassle. In addition, this lithium-ion battery jump starter has other prominent features that may appeal to you. So, read on to reveal what else NOCO has brought on the plate with this model.

Build and design

NOCO Boost Plus GB40 build and design

I am a fan of NOCO jump starters because of their compact size. NOCO GB40 is as big as a power bank and weighs around 2,4 pounds. It feels sturdy, and the clamps are heavy-duty. The device comes with a 40-inch micro USB cable, which is long enough to reach the socket for recharging.

Ports

There is one 2.1A Micro USB input and one 2.1A USB output. Thus, you can charge your headphones, smartphone, tablet, laptop, smart watches, or other gadgets. The ports are concealed, so you should not worry that dirt or dust can build up there.

Features

Whether you have a gas engine of up to 6 liters or a diesel engine of up to 3 liters, the GB40 jump starter is a good match for you. It will quickly crank the car, mover, boat, or RV.

When I took this model for a test, it was half-charged. The car’s battery was completely drained, reading only 4V. It was too dead to be detected by the jump starter, so I had to use the manual override button. NOCO GB40 brought the car back to life in a few seconds.

There is a spark-proof technology and reverse polarity protection. It’s good to know that you won’t burn your car’s electronics even if you make a mistake and mismatch polarities.

The LED flashlight is as bright as 100 lumens. Of course, you won’t illuminate a huge area with this light output, but it is still enough for urban and suburban use. There are 7 modes in it, including SOS and emergency strobe.

A battery LED indicator is easy to read because of the different colors. So you will always know when to recharge. Besides, an Error indicator will notify you if you do something wrong.
